Classroom Based Assessment
Conflict will always be present in our world no matter what. Yes, peace will come and treaties will be created but issues will continue. It may seem like every conflict heard is involved with the United States, but there are many that have nothing to do with us. The Syrian Uprising is the conflict I chose to research for this Classroom Based Assessment.
There has been an issue with the Syrian government for years and years. Finally on January 26th of 2011 the public started coming out violently to protest against the government and President Bashar al-Assad. Al-Assad immediately deployed soldiers to help calm the people, however the protesters lingered with guns, bombs, and hatred.
The root of the conflict is the main factor causing it. Syria’s people desperately want to overthrow al-Assad’s government of Ba’ath Party rule. The Ba’ath Party Rule was established five decades ago to gain power to prevent the French from ruling Syria and Lebanon. This Arab political party’s focus is on socialism, secularism (rejecting religion), and Pan-Arab Unionism. Because of these, the public is now fed up and want drastic change.
According to the Associated Press, Syria is pushing itself toward a civil war. The protests and riots are becoming very violent so I believe that is probably what is going to happen. I also believe that President Bashar al-Assad will eventually be assassinated, ridding him from his thrown. When he gets assassinated or removed from office, the county I believe will get better and hopefully someone takes his place that the county will appreciate.
Syria is just one of the places that are having trouble, either with another country, within the people (with or without the government), or anything that can start an up rise. Peace will come eventually for Syria we just have to sit back and wait for what the President will do.
