Global - AIDS in Africa
AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) is a transmitted disease caused by HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) which depletes the immune system. HIV is transmitted by body fluids such as blood, urine, and even feces. In 2010, more than 1.5 people died of AIDS and over 2 million people became infected. Every year this pattern is the same because all of the unprotected sex and the conditions the people live in. Those are causes because with unprotected sex body fluids will be transmitted and the living conditions can be gruesome due to no sewage drainage and food.
The United States has a good view of the problems in Africa. There are many organizations like the Red Cross, Help for Humanity and Sponsorship organizations like Compassion International that help children and Adults living in poverty by sending money, building homes, and giving medical attention to those who need it. Building homes, drainage, and water sources have definitely helped a lot in the countries where the organizations go to. But even though it helped there are still people being infected with HIV/ AIDs.
AIDS affects mainly at a local level but national as well. Schools being the biggest one because that is where children can be educated about it and it sucks that kids are getting the disease from their home. It has affected nationally by bringing down the nation’s economy by slowing down the development. I believe that we need to put more effort into sex education for not only children but for adults as well. Especially in the workplace, I think education should be available there also.
